Pre Departure Vaccinations

As with traveling to any Asian country there are several precautions you should take before you depart on your trip. The below is only suggested precautions that you should take, we like to recommend that you consult with your travel doctor before you go traveling. The following vaccinations are advisable, but depend on the area that you are traveling and your length of stay.

Typhoid and Paratyphoid- This is recommended for all areas of Nepal and Asia

Tetanus-
This is also highly recommend, you should check if you need your Tetanus updated.

Malaria-
these tablets are only recommended if you are having a stay of more than four days in the Teri. Malaria is mostly eradicated from Nepal but we do advise you to take care. If you only have a short stay in the area then you can just take the normal precautions like, wearing insect replant, using a net and covering up at night.

Hepatitis-
In days past this was quite common in Nepal, but now days things seem to be under control, it is still better to take precautions. The best protect is to ensure that you only eat clean food and drink water you are sure is safe. You can have vaccinations for Hep A and B prior to your departure.

Encephalitis-
(Jap B) This shot is recommended if you are planning to stay more than a few weeks in the Terai Region.

Rabies –
this is an optional vaccination. Rabies is not epidemic in Nepal, but does occur in some regions. If you are planning to have contact with animals, this may be a good ides.

When you consult with your travel doctor, they will issue you with a record of immunizations in your International Certificate of Vaccinations book, which you have to have stamped by your local health department. With a little care, there is no reason for anyone to catch anything in Nepal. Nepalese pharmacies stock a reasonable range of western pharmaceutics including aspirin, cough syrup, rehydration salts, all sorts of anit botics, diarrhea treatment, ventolin and eye drops. All of the above mentioned injections can also be taken in Kathmandu at very cheap rates.
