In Tibet the unit of currency is Yuan which is US$ 1 = 8 Yuan or equivalent. Travel agencies in Kathmandu accept travel cheque and foreign currency. In Xigatse and Lhasa major credits cards are also acceptable. You should be wary of changing your money at the Tibet Nepal border as the exchange rate is not very good. You should wait till you get further into Tibet or arrange the currency in Kathmandu.
